You know, I've never watched 24, but something tells me that, with that much controversy about it, I'd probably like it. Maybe I'll pick up the first couple of seasons on DVD at Blockbuster or Hollywood Video and watch them. I mean, you know us "conservatives", we watch too much television and don't read enough interesting books. (That Psychology Today article REALLY sticks in my craw...)

You know, on that matter...nearly everyone who writes television is a "liberal"; why are they complaining that "conservatives" watch too much TV? We're giving them work, for crying out loud!

Remember all the stuff about people not letting their kids read the Harry Potter books because they 'might want to try magic' or whatever the big hoo-hah was?

Well. I saw a thing on the TV at the gym this morning talking about the stuff about 24.

IT'S TELEVISION. It isn't REAL. Jeez, what is WRONG with people (not you, John!) It's supposed to be ENTERTAINING ( I don't watch it because I don't find 24 entertaining, but I know lots of people who do.)

Heck, some of them are even Conservative.

Exactly the point. It hasn't made it through six seasons because evil right-wing Rupert Murdoch wills it there. It's made it through six seasons because it's well done and people watch it. It sells advertising. You'd think that people whose jobs are in television would understand that.

Maybe it's just me, but calling us too stupid to vote and too stupid to absorb good books doesn't seem like such a good way to win us over.

This is the one greatest fault that I find with the left, particularly the media, academia and the Democrats who get the most air time: they treat the rest of us as if we're stupid and unable to take care of ourselves. If they aren't directly attacking us for our political beliefs, they're taking a condescending tone with us. I'd be a whole lot more amenable to some of their ideas if they'd lose the attitude and talk to us, not at us.

I've watched the fist couple of seasons and I enjoyed it, but I got bored when they seemed to be repeating themselves. I mean, how many moles can there be in a counter terrorism unit before you start wondering how good their security screening is?

And...
I'd be a whole lot more amenable to some of their ideas if they'd lose the attitude and talk to us, not at us.

But then people would actually have to think for themselves and you know how much they hate that. *grin*

That's what I'm saying. Since FDR and the New Deal, the Democrats have played to the notion that people are too dumb to make their own decisions and that they're better off leaving it to the government (run by the Democrats) to make those decisions for them. The unfortunate thing is that the Republicans have chosen to follow the lead of the Democrats and do the same thing. And the even more unfortunate thing is that enough people eat it up.
