Chief Jack's Galley

There's a place for people who laugh at nothing...

Day By Day...Lord, I could go on all day about this sort of thing. The notion that one has to take a specific position in order to be certified by an organization is ridiculous. And the Weather Channel is a local business, by the way.

On the Four-Block front, Tom gives us his predictions for the Super Bowl based on who wins this weekend. What is this, Super Bowl XLIII? Shows how much I pay attention. The last one I cared about was XX, when the Bears were in it, and then only because of the "Super Bowl Shuffle". Looks like they might be in it again; who knows? Tom also shares his favorite condiments (I don't like any of this stuff) and shares his take on the four food groups.

And this, I thought, was really interesting, from the Grouchy Old Cripple: A map that shows each state's GDP in terms of what country in the world it's equivalent to. There's also a link to a map that shows how the next four largest economies compare to that of the United States. Shows how strong the US economy is, despite the best efforts of some in Congress...

I just saw an art exhibit at the San Jose Fine Art Museum that reflected the same information as your last link there. The artist used a series of inner-lit globes in a very dark room to show this and other information about economics. Seeing it all there together was a stunning reality. Unfortunately, the artist's name did not leave the same impression on my feeble mind, or I could tell you who he was.

Googling didn't turn anything up, either. Oh well.

I just found it:

His name is Ingo Günther, and you'll find a little bit about it and a small image midway down the page.

It would also be interesting to compare the 5 year growth in GDP - states v.s. countries.

It would be quite interesting indeed. I'd be interested to see how economies like those of India and China have grown as opposed to those of Western Europe.
