Knowing full and well that I probably shouldn't, but pathologically unable to avoid it, I give you today's Day By Day and today's editorial from Christopher Hitchens.

Superbly written. Thanks for posting.

The Democratic party has for a long time been an amalgamation of identity groups. So their nominating process is going to be a battle between identity groups.

That's got to have a lot of Democrat voters in a tizzy. Do I not vote for Hillary and appear sexist, not vote for Obama and appear racist, or not vote for Edwards and appear anti-metrosexual? Reminds me of Dennis Miller's comment, that some liberals have so much trouble picking out which ribbon to wear that they can barely get out the door.

The funny thing is that if you strip away their obvious differences there's not a dime's worth of difference between them...

Hitchens is SO right in that piece (meaning correct, not politically right).

I was listening to a conversation on NPR the other day where three politically active black women in South Carolina were discussing whether they should vote for Clinton because she's a woman or Obama because he's black. One said she'd probably vote for Obama because she didn't want to tell her daughter why she didn't vote for someone that looked like them.

I heard that and wanted to smack her. Dr. King's dream? It's never going to be realized as long as people keep thinking like that.

There was an article in the Atlanta newspaper about the same thing, only they were talking to girls at Spelman College, and they were saying the same thing. Simply unbelievable. What happened to voting for the person most qualified who represents your ideas the best?
