Happy Cinco de Mayo, which, as anyone who watches television can tell you, is the most popular holiday in Ireland.

Woke up at 3 AM with the mother of all sinus headaches. Three aspirin and another four hours of sleep did little to alleviate the misery, and I have to be careful which medications I take for sinus (although most of those have been removed from the market thanks to the War on Drugs). It's been overcast and threatening to rain most of the day, which meant that I went from being tired to being miserable to being miserable and tired all day. Couldn't get a thing done, either. Finally, at 3 this afternoon I took three aspirin and drank a cup of coffee. Within an hour, the headache and the fatigue were gone.

I've been teaching myself how to write Transact-SQL in order to update a SQL Server training database with test data for the new features of this product. (What I really think needs to happen is to rebuild it from scratch, because they've done something to hose it something fierce, and at least one of the new features isn't working properly as a result. But, I'm just the contractor.) I've been pretty lucky so far, but I'm thinking a trip to Borders to pick up an O'Reilly book on the subject is in the works, and it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to pick one up on PL/SQL or whatever Oracle uses. Hey, I'm a trainer, and I'm an old techie, and I might be called on to do technical training for this company, since the guy who does it currently has said on at least one occasion that he's not particularly technical. It sounds to me like they could use the technical expertise in the training area, which would make me particularly valuable, which begs the question of whether I'd be happy working for these folks full-time. (Incidentally, if anyone has experience in writing procedures for SQL Server or Oracle and can recommend a good reference, I'm all ears.)

Sherman is definitely back to his old cantankerous self. I couldn't be happier.

Heard from my brother in California last night. He managed, within ten minutes, to insult nearly everything I hold dear, including my new nephew. He does that on occasion. In cases like that, I try to think of something happy:

THE WHITE SOX HAVE THE BEST RECORD IN MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL.

Lisa, I think I'll get to the three chapters of LTF this evening...
