Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo....

I had one of those "Twilight Zone" moments a few minutes ago. I was invited to my 25th class reunion (2003 minus 1978...yeah, that's right) at Northwestern University. Now, I did attend Northwestern, and I did identify it as one of my schools on Classmates.com, but I never in a million years thought that I'd actually hear from anyone from NU, let alone be invited to a class reunion. As I recall, I left there on Academic Probation. In fact, I often tell the story that they called me into the office when they realized that I wasn't going to return for my junior year, and confirmed that I was leaving so that they could spare themselves the task of throwing me out.

I'll spare one and all the agony of my reminiscences of my college selection process ("John, you're going to Northwestern", "Yes, ma'am"), and of my misspent college years (where I paid a large sum of money to go drinking with the same guys that I'd grown up with), but what's really weird is that I've been thinking back on those days a lot recently, and there may be a story or two in all of it. Amazing where one finds inspiration, isn't it?

The first story

OK, as promised, I'm posting the first of my "story a day" entries. It's one that I've been working on for a couple of days now, and I'm pretty happy with it. It's based on some things that happened to me years ago, combined with some pretty wild stories I've heard, and a good amount of imagination. It features Tony Reardon, a character that has made an appearance or two on Ghostletters. Let me know what you think.

Happy Birthday, by the way, to Sir Paul McCartney, who turned 61 today. I feel so old!
