Something that deserves to be mentioned

Randy Johnson of the Arizona Diamondbacks pitched a perfect game this evening against my hometown Atlanta Braves. There are certain times when it's OK to cheer for the other guys to win. This was one of those nights. He's now the oldest pitcher in major league history to pitch a perfect game and only about the 17th pitcher of all time to throw one. Quite an accomplishment.

Later Edit: Randy's officially only the 15th pitcher to throw a perfect game. Unofficially, you have Harvey Haddix's 12-inning perfecto that he lost in the 13th to the Milwaukee Braves.

And, here's a thought: the last pitcher in the National League to throw a perfect game was Dennis Martinez of the Montreal Expos. Randy Johnson started his career with Montreal, and Dennis Martinez ended his career with Atlanta. Strange how those things work out, isn't it?

So, here it is Wednesday...

Mary and I had decided long before my conversation with the boss on Monday that we were going to take some time off this week and drive up to Tennessee, so we're here in Murfreesboro for the evening. We're going to visit Bell Buckle and Lynchburg (the home of my old buddy Jack Daniel) tomorrow. At least that's the plan; my guess is that we'll spend the day in Bell Buckle and forgo Lynchburg. Which is fine with me. The point of doing this is to get away and relax a little bit, to prepare for what's ahead for us.
