This is how Mary and I shop for each other for Christmas. In fact, she shops for herself, I shop for myself, we treat ourselves to a couple of family gifts, and that's Christmas in a nutshell (no, there isn't an O'Reilly book on the subject, although there could be).

For that matter, we already know what we're having for dinner: Honey Baked Ham and a couple of side dishes (scalloped potatoes, sweet potato souffle, green bean casserole). I don't cook on holidays; I heat things up.

Meeting went well today. I met one of the other full-time instructors, and we got on well. I found out that I can do the product proficiency exam at home and that it's open book, so I'm sure that I'll do really well. The head of training told me that if I get anything wrong, he just sends it back to me and I get a chance to fix it. Then, when I get up to 100 percent, I get paid. Then, I can begin my instructor certification, after which I get paid again. Then, they're going to start using me wherever they can. That's more money.

The head of training wanted to make sure that I wasn't just looking to his company to support myself, and that I understood that I was free to conduct my business in whatever manner that I wanted. I appreciate his telling me that; I'm relatively new at the contracting business, and I want to make an honest go of it, and that's going to entail selling my services whenever and wherever I can. So, after the first of the year, I'm going to focus on creating opportunities for myself. It's been good to have help while I'm just getting my feet on the ground, not only people helping me find work but also people mentoring me and encouraging me to make a niche for myself in the training world. I've been a bit unfocused as I've been finding my way, leaning in whatever direction seems to provide me with an opportunity. While I'll continue to examine any opportunities that arise, I want to be sure to determine what I'm going to focus on.

Enough blather about work.

I didn't sleep well last night. Hopefully I'll make it up tonight.
