Update: My right ear, the one that was giving me trouble originally, is now more or less open. The left ear is still shut down, although it's dry, so it doesn't appear to be bleeding. I've got 10 days worth of antibiotics, all of which I plan on taking and/or squirting into my ear. Believe me, I don't want to have to put up with this crap ever again.

I saw a bumper sticker today from one of the local schools, whose mascot is the silverback gorilla. I can just imagine their cheers:

Give me an O!
O!
Give me an O!
O!
Give me an O!
O!
What's that spell?
Ooo! Ooo! Ooo! Ooo!

My mind works in mysterious ways.

We're expecting rain and cold temps tonight, which means that, by the morning, Atlanta should be an icy mess. I stay in when things like that happen. I really don't have anywhere to go tomorrow, anyway, since the boss has ordered me to take care of myself, because I'm no good to him when I'm sick. And, yes, lourdesmont, I know, it's going to be sunny and warm where you are, and yes, annef, I know it's going to be snowy and negative centigrades or Celsiuses or whatever you use up in Canada. meropa and wicked_x_game, maybe you two will get lucky and not have to go to school tomorrow...

One of the things I like about Atlanta is that you get four seasons, but winter is short and mild and spring and fall are beautiful. One of the things I'm learning to like, albeit from inside, is the long, hot summer. Summer is much more comfortable in Chicago, but I'm now at a point in my life where I wouldn't go back there, not even to escape the summer heat.

majkia and I were discussing the idea of writing muses. I told her that, while I didn't feel that I had a muse, if I did, it would be a Marine drill sergeant. So, today, Mary and I are sitting in Starbucks, doing what we usually do (drink coffee, she knits, I scribble in a notebook), and I had this image of my muse sitting on the toilet. Don't ask me why I thought that was so funny. Maybe it's the drugs.

I'm happy for closed captioning. I was able to watch NCIS and House last night without being able to hear.

Technical question for any and all:

Mary complained last week that she wasn't able to get onto the Internet from our cable connection. When I came home, I tried it, and it didn't work, nor did any wi-fi connections. Thinking that it was the wi-fi router, I disconnected it and attached the cable directly to the Ethernet card on my desktop, and it worked, until I shut down and started up again, whereupon it didn't work. I found that I was able to get a connection by disconnecting and reconnecting the Ethernet cable from the Ethernet card (such as I did a minute ago). When I try to connect one of my laptops using a wired connection, I get a message that tells me that the connection is incomplete (or something to that effect), ipconfig shows me with no IP address aside from 127.0.0.1, and I can't ping any websites.

Additionally, when I try to connect to certain sites (e.g. the signon page for Amazon.com), I'm getting a "connection refused" message.

Does that sound like a problem with the cable modem?
