Spent most of the day trying to figure out how it was that I was able to use this database earlier in the week but not after reinstalling the application. Turns out that the person who set it up changed a setting or two in a file, and when I made the same changes, lo and behold, it worked!

By the time I got all of that done, Mary and I were ravenous, so I went to the store and KFC and picked up dinner and other goodies. Food and a couple of Amoryn later, I'm doing much better. I'll have to spend the evening working on the training materials, especially since I have to send the client a copy tonight, but that only gives me an excuse to put the White Sox-Angels game on while I'm working.

During dinner, Mary and I watched the Marx Brothers' A Day At The Races. I love the singing and dancing in that one. It cheered me right up.

And now, it's time for cake and coffee. See you all tomorrow. Maybe sooner.

A Day at the Races

Don't you wish they still made movies like that one?

Oh, absolutely. Humor, music, romance, humor, a happy ending for the good guys, an unhappy ending for the bad guys, not to mention humor. There are plenty of people who would claim that the racial stereotypes ("Who Dat Man?" "All God's Children Got Rhythm") were disgraceful, but it was a product of its time and an opportunity to see masterful performances by some of the best artists of their time. The joy of those musical performances had me fighting off tears.

Well, I don't think racism was right then...and I don't think it's right now, but as you said, it was a product of its time. The performances WERE masterful and the filmmaking a true art. I'm glad that you got to take that trip down memory lane. I'd like to see that one again myself.

They show it on Turner Classic Movies every once in a while (that's where I saw it yesterday). I'm not sure if you get that channel on your cable (heck, I'm not even sure that you have cable, or a TV for that matter). You might be able to get it through Netflix as well.
