In this election year, here's an idea that deserves consideration. I've been saying this for years.

You know... I could actually support that idea. But lets expand it!

Why restrict it to congresscritters, why not choose the president and co from among the representaives by a blind lottery. After all he's supposed to be first among his peers, right?

not a democracy, but an ad-hoc-cracy.

I'd modify that to say that the president would be chosen by the representatives. The Senate (I'd return the selection of Senators to the state legislatures) could pick the vice president, who is the President of the Senate. And I wouldn't let anyone wiggle out of it; the US Marshalls would show up on the selected person's doorstep and bring him/her to Washington, no ifs, ands or buts. Then it would be two years and you're done; you'd be ineligible to serve from that point on.

The whole electoral process in this country has turned into one big circle jerk. I've come to the conclusion that if voting solved anything, it'd be made illegal.
