I'm killing time at Borders, waiting for Mary to be done with class (she's at nearby Kennesaw State University, taking a class in Medical Billing and Insurance). For some reason, I get more work done when I'm not in the house than I do when I am. I managed to finish my training materials for tomorrow's class (I'm showing newbies how to turn their laptops into servers so that they can run the application) while I was here, and am now relaxing with decaf Americano #2. NCIS and House are on tape delay; we'll watch them when we get home, around 10 PM. OK, it's kind of a late night, especially on a school night, but class doesn't start until 10 AM tomorrow, so I've got time.

I've got Mindi Abair on the iPod, all three of her albums on shuffle. I've decided that she's who I listen to when I'm in a foul mood. She and Joyce Cooling. Maybe the two of them could be coaxed into doing an album together.

I found an interesting book at the library yesterday, called A friendship : the letters of Dan Rowan and John D. MacDonald, 1967-1974. It's 300 pages worth of correspondence between the mustachioed half of Rowan and Martin and the author of the Travis McGee books, right as both of them were becoming popular. One doesn't generally think that a comic and an author have much in common, much less the basis for a friendship, but evidently they were quite good friends for a while, becoming estranged in 1974 and finally finding one another again in the 1980s. I guess I was curious as to what they would talk about with one another. Something that I thought was even more interesting was that, as I thumb through it, it appears never to have been read. Can you imagine that? A book, sitting on the shelf of a library for over 10 years, and no one took it out? I'll let you all know how it is. I'm not sure that it's still in print. Can't have been much of a bestseller.

Everyone in here, except for me it seems, is studying for finals. There's a group over to my right that's studying anatomy, there are two people beside me who appear to be busy writing a report of some sort, there's a bible study group in front of me, etc.

Anyway, it's been a semi-productive day here. I have a ton of work to get done eventually, but not tonight, fortunately, because I'm getting pretty close to wiped out.

Talk to you all tomorrow.

That book sounds interesting and I'm anxious to see what you have to say about it once you've read it. Always thought Rowan was an interesting character. I know very little about him, though.

Enjoy the coffee!

I'd like to know more about that book too. I suppose this is a naive question, but was that a gay relationship? I think Dan Rowan died fairly young from complications of diabetes.

Hey wait! Is that group beside you studying your anatomy? I have that problem all the time of course. I tell you, it's just awful.

As far as I know, neither Rowan nor MacDonald were gay. They were both married, in fact, not that it means anything, but it's usually a pretty good indication.

As far as studying my anatomy...no. There's enough of it to study...
