I was sorry to hear of the death of Gerald Ford, the youngest Eagle Scout of all time and the only man to occupy the Oval Office who wasn't elected to the job. A lot of people hold that against him, as well as his pardoning of Richard Nixon (which was absolutely the right thing to do). He spent most of his brief presidency being called an idiot by the press (which he wasn't, but hey, they are the press and he was a Republican) and having his vetoes overridden by the Democrats in Congress before being voted out of office in 1976. After leaving office, he was gracious and set an example for former presidents, an example that seems to have been lost on his successor.

Gerald Ford is quoted as having said, "The government that promises you everything you want will also take everything you have." And they called him an idiot...

Rest in peace, Mr. President.
