Public to decide fate of Bonds' record-breaking ball

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- The fate of Barry Bonds' record-breaking home run ball is now in the public's hands after its buyer announced Monday he was taking votes on whether to give the ball to the Hall of Fame, brand it with an asterisk or blast it into space.

I like the idea of branding it with an asterisk and giving it to the Hall of Fame. Regardless of whether or not he took steroids, no ballplayer worth the title would stand at home plate and show up a major league pitcher like he does. None of the guys who reached 500 home runs this year has done that. Just my opinion, but it's a bush league thing to do. There was a time when that sort of behavior would have earned you a 90 MPH fastball in the ear your next time at bat. God, how I miss the old days...

I remember when baseball was fun, too. I remember Hank Aaron breaking Babe Ruth's record and all anybody - I knew anyways - wanted was for him to succeed. I remember going to Cooperstown a few times and just being amazed at what all those people accomplished. Hell, I cannot even hit a barn if I was nailed to its walls! And I drooled over something or other that Kevin Elster had on display but - then again - I pretty much drooled over Kevin Elster!

Barry Bonds is a right royal PITA! And I am with you - I think they should asterisk the ball and THEN give it to the Hall of Fame. I do not think it should be sent into outer space - probably piss off the Alien Invasion Horde waiting out there. Nor do I think it should just be given to the Hall of Fame.

Cheating is cheating is cheating.

End of story.
