SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- The fate of Barry Bonds' record-breaking home run ball is now in the public's hands after its buyer announced Monday he was taking votes on whether to give the ball to the Hall of Fame, brand it with an asterisk or blast it into space.
I like the idea of branding it with an asterisk and giving it to the Hall of Fame. Regardless of whether or not he took steroids, no ballplayer worth the title would stand at home plate and show up a major league pitcher like he does. None of the guys who reached 500 home runs this year has done that. Just my opinion, but it's a bush league thing to do. There was a time when that sort of behavior would have earned you a 90 MPH fastball in the ear your next time at bat. God, how I miss the old days...
