This is almost as good as the White Sox winning the World Series in 2005...

The Cubs were swept by the Diamondbacks.

Sorry about the Phillies by the way, but not sorry about the Yankees.

Go Tribe!

Yeah, yeah, yeah, well, we all knew that was coming.

Their being there seems to have been a fluke and a half, and they just couldn't keep up the momentum.

So what else is new?

I have a sort of affection for the Phillies, since they've been the White Sox's preferred trading partner (Where do you think Aaron Rowand came from?), they knocked the Mets out of it and generally played really well this year. Since they're in the NL East with the Braves, I saw them a lot this past year, and when I knew the Braves weren't going to be in it, I was hoping for the Phillies to beat New York.

One of the better books I've read was True Believers: The Tragic Inner Life of Sports Fans by Joe Queenan. He's from Philadelphia, and in reading that I realized that the Phillies and White Sox are very similar, in that they don't have much of a following outside of their home towns and not much respect in them. So I have a certain amount of appreciation for the Phillies, who had a very good team this year and will for many years to come.
