RIP George Carlin

From his early days:

This bit made me want to be a comedian more than anything. Wonder what happened to those days?

For some reason which I can't figure, I wasn't with my family the night they went to Milwaukee's Summerfest to hear George Carlin. That was the night he got arrested for using the Seven Words You Can't Say on Television...

My favorite bit of his (besides this one and "Class Clown") was him comparing himself to Richard Pryor: Collapse )

Rest in peace, George.

The Songs meme

from halfmoon_mollie. Here are the instructions:

1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. List (and upload, if you feel like it) 5 songs that start with that letter.
3. Post that to your journal with these instructions.

My letter was "W". Here are the songs, with links to YouTube:

Willow Weep for Me - a standard; this version by Chad & Jeremy

Walk, Don't Run - The Ventures (featuring the legendary Nokie Edwards)

Waiting Game - Swing Out Sister (featuring the extraordinary Corinne Drewery)

Wave - Antonio Carlos Jobim (here w/Toninho)

Waltz for Debby - Bill Evans

Dis 'n dat...

It's been real quiet workwise, so I've basically been standing around waiting for the phone to ring. And hoping I can hear the person on the other end when it does. I'm not overly happy with AT&T right now. I haven't been able to get to the Internet from my phone for a couple of weeks now, half of my calls sound like they're coming from the bottom of the ocean, and I got up this morning to discover that it stopped delivering email to the phone overnight. It's just recently that they've been like this, and it bothers me because I'm paying for all of this. I called them on Sunday and complained, and they said that they're aware of the problem. Maybe I should go with someone else, except I just bought this phone.

I'm using Firefox 3.0. It's worth it, and was very easy to install on top of the old version. Thanks for telling me, ainabarad.

Just so you know, this new keyboard is a little stiff, and on occasion refuses to capitalize words unless I put the caps lock on. So, if the occasional proper noun or initial word in a sentence isn't capitalized, that's why. My right hand still doesn't work very well, so I'm still one-handing it, which I know I shouldn't do because it'll stiffen up on me, but sometimes expedience is more important than manual dexterity. I try to type with both hands as much as I can, but I'm the impatient sort.

I'm really starting to wonder about the job. The guy I report to asked me to set up a server, and I can't get on the server until I know what the password is. So I write to ask him what it is, and he tells me that he'll send it to me "when he can." This is the same person that I've asked half a dozen times for help with another server and has not answered any of the requests. This keeps up and I'm going over his head.

I'm far too easygoing. Have you noticed?
